Watermelon Soup

1 notes

Sam and I bonded over half a watermelon yesterday. Nothing better on a hot day! It was a nice after school treat. He loved it! We ended up eating the whole thing! Sam's favorite part was the "watermelon soup." I even gave him a little cup to use to collect the soup. Mmmmm! He really didn't like his shorts getting wet and he quickly took them off. (That's a recent behavior we've noticed.) Somehow, though, he didn't mind the watermelon juice dripping down his face, his arms, AND his legs! We had so much fun and Sam was so cute that I ended up taking 53 pictures! Here are just a few of my favorites:

That's the moment my child became a little boy and left babyhood behind. At least that's how it feels.

I've dreaded it for months now, and now Sam has finally found his way out of his crib. He woke up crying (which is normal) and I went into his room to lay him back down. I went back to bed but got up a few minutes later because he was just screaming! I walked past his room to get him a little water and as I came back, I noticed he sounded different, closer. As I got closer to his door I just prayed. "Please, God. Don't let him be out of his crib." And sure enough, he met me at the door.

That is a sickening feeling! He didn't seem hurt and luckily I had his inflatable mattress all ready for him. I got him to lay down on it and it only took an hour for him to fall back to sleep. I sat in his rocker and watched him until he finally let his eyes stay close.

It's 6:00 the following morning and I haven't heard him peep yet. Say a prayer that tonight will go smoothly when I tuck him into his new bed. I guess we'll be putting him into his big boy bed pretty soon. Much sooner than I intended.

I wish I had known last night that I was tucking him into his crib for the last time...

Another Zoo Trip

0 notes

We spent the morning at the zoo with Carson again today. Lots of fun, but it got hot and crowded, and we all ran out of gas around 10:30. Sam got to ride the new train and loved it! He also liked the carousel this time-not so much last time! More than anything, he enjoyed rock hunting! He came home with a pocketfull!

Big Boy Bed

0 notes

Well, we have everything ready for Sam's big boy bed just in case he decides to jump the rail like Carson! And finally, after months of searching, I found just the right airplane sheets! The day they arrived, I put them on Sam's inflatable mattress and let him play for a while. He loves the sheets! He pretended to snore and sleep and rolled around in the bed. Then, he got everything out of his crib and gathered it all on his new bed. I'm not sure where he was planning to sleep with all that stuff on there!

He was having so much fun and loving his bed so much, that I decided to let him try and sleep on the bed. He is very definitely not ready for that! As soon as I left the room (each time) he would march to the door and bang and cry. As soon as I put him in his crib, he settled right down and went to sleep. So, we'll just wait a while to try that again!

I also won't be formally potty training anytime soon. The day after the bed trial, I kept him outside all morning, no diaper, and eventually, no pants. He sat on the potty often, and went pee pee often. Just not in the potty! So, we're not ready for that yet, either!

Taylor at Hudson's BBQ

0 notes

The faculty and staff from my school got together for fellowship and celebration at Hudson's tonight. Sam acted like a 2 year old the whole time. He was only interested in sitting and watching the gross, very blue water. Thank goodness for Emma Cate! She fed him and helped keep him in his seat long enough for us to eat.

Bless You

Surprisingly, Scott and I woke up before Sam Sunday morning. The house was eerily quite. We knew he'd be awake any minute, so we just laid in bed waiting to hear him beckon us over the monitor. The first peep we heard from our little one was a sneeze followed by "Bless you!" It was so cute!

Then of course came "Mama!"

Sammy Outside

0 notes

Here's just a few shots of my handsome boy, taken the day after his "not-a-party" last weekend. Both the slide and the Tonka toy were birthday gifts.
